Navaratri, the nine nights of the Goddess.
We are currently in Navaratri, the nine nights of the goddess. There are two Navaratri during the year, this, the autumnal, is the foremost one.
Navaratri celebrates the divine feminine, specifically Durga and her victory over forces that would threaten the harmony and dharma of existence in several epic tales
In these stories, all of life including the Gods themselves, are at a loss as to how to overcome the imminent destruction facing everything, in these make or break situations, when all appears lost, it is the manifestation of the divine feminine that provides the solution to the predicament.
The essence of Navaratri is that this fundemental quality of life, the divine feminine, this source nature, both births existence and also restores existence to a state of balance when this is threatened.
This is a comforting realisation that the subtle in life, the deep innate intelligence and energy can rectify what the gross, the manifestation of it can’t. Each night of Navaratri, a different form of the divine feminine is celebrated, indicating how this source nature can present itself in so many different ways.
Occasions like Navaratri allow us to recognise and celebrate this quality in life, not just in the external world, but also within ourselves.
Happy Navaratri!
