Navaratri and the Goddess.
We are now in Navaratri, the nine nights of the Goddess, the divine mother. This mainly celebrates the divine feminine as Durga, especially as related in the Devi Mahatmya, of her victory over Mahishasura, the buffalo demon, therefore restoring harmony and balance in life.
In Yoga, Tantra and Indic myth the divine feminine is understood as, and perceived in all tangible form
While the forms may be diverse, the essence is one, hence we see so many faces of the divine originating from these sources.
So just as the essence of life takes on these multitudinous forms that we perceive everywhere, each day of Navaratri also recognises different attributes of the goddess.
In this period we see three main forms venerated, Durga, symbolising the characteristics that destroy the obstacles and the misperceptions in life, Lakshmi, the abundance and plenty of form, and Saraswati the beauty, wisdom and knowledge that is communicated in life’s expression.
From these celebrations, we can consider how this divine essence appears in all aspects of our lives, especially in these auspicious forms.
May the qualities of the Goddess be present in your whole being!
Jai ma Durga!
