Today, this evening is Maha Shivaratri, the great night of Shiva, like all such days of note, at this time the qualities and characteristics of Shiva are at their most prominent and accessible.
Shiva, is the eternal Yogi, forever immersed in the state of meditation, in and as divine consciousness, the eternal essence of everything, yet shiva is also a householder, with a spouse and children, living and being in the world.
This wonderfully clever depiction gives us great insight into the nature of reality, for as life goes on, it occurs within this interplay of consciousness and energy. Although we may get lost and distracted by the form and name of reality, this divine consciousness is ever present,
Life is both familiar and a mystery, simple yet spectacular, profane and sacred.
Sometimes this is known and felt in meditation, in a moment of rest and spontaneous absorption, in a profound moment, in the delight of life occuring.
So it is, that in certain places, in the company of certain people or at particular times that this is brighter, shivaratri is a deep example of this message that these most exalted dieties and their qualities are found in everything, everyone, everywhere.
